Hilltop Researchers Assess Compliance with Hospital Price Transparency Regulation over Time

In their new study, Assessing Compliance with Hospital Price Transparency over Time, Hilltop Principal Data Scientist Morgan Henderson, PhD, and Policy Analyst Morgane Mouslim, DVM, ScM, use a nationwide data set of 4,834 hospitals to examine compliance with hospital price transparency regulations over time. They also assess the extent to which certain factors are associated with improving compliance.

Drs. Henderson and Mouslim find that compliance is generally improving nationwide, though it remains low: 23.8% in 2021 and 35.9% in 2022. Large and system-affiliated hospitals display the strongest improvements in compliance, but small, independent, and government-owned hospitals display a relative lag in compliance.
