Hilltop Policy Analyst Morgane Mouslim, DVM, with Tatiane Santos, Jeanmarie Perrone, Berkeley Franz, and Cory E. Cronin, co-authored this article published in the Journal of Public Health Management & Practice. They examined whether not-for-profit hospitals that prioritize opioid use disorder (OUD) in community benefit (CB) planning are more likely to comply with price reporting for medications commonly prescribed for OUD treatment (OUD medications) and offer lower self-pay prices for OUD medications. Overall, they found limited evidence that hospitals identifying OUD as a community health priority translated these stated priorities into pricing practices that may improve affordability for uninsured and underinsured patients.

H.R. 1 is poised to make significant changes to Medicaid eligibility for individuals in the Affordable Care Act (ACA) expansion group, and it is crucial for states to understand how their ACA expansion populations may be affected. To that end, Hilltop researchers posted a short weekly series on LinkedIn using American Community Survey (ACS) data to take a closer look at adults who fall into the “ACA-like” Medicaid group.
