Prashant Rana is a programmer at The Hilltop Institute, where he performs SAS programming to create and analyze large health care data sets for population health, health care utilization, and program assessment. He also performs maintenance on Hilltop’s Medicaid databases, along with implementation and maintenance on automation scripts he developed.

Before becoming a programmer, Prashant gained experience as a Hilltop graduate research assistant. As such, he optimized data warehouse performance used for reporting purposes, worked on performance tuning of Hilltop’s Tableau and SQL servers, and created visualizations in Tableau for the Maryland Department of Health and UMBC’s men’s basketball team. As a systems engineer for Alepo Technologies, Prashant analyzed logs, maintained database replication, and performed database installation. He also monitored various servers based on different protocols that allowed end users to connect in several ways, maintained MySQL/ORACLE/Maria databases with admin privileges, and led the implementation of a data analysis tool to maintain service level agreement.

Prashant earned his MS in information systems from UMBC and his BE (bachelor of engineering) in information technology from the University of Mumbai (India).
